sun | cloud | wind
sonne | wolke | wind
Clarissa Sacchelli and I have been in artistic residency for two months and a half now at the Kuntlerhauser Worpswede, a place in Lower Saxony known for its beautiful landscapes, low sky and deep horizons. The Worpswede village is an artists village, mainly because painters from the XIX century lived here, specifically to paint such surroundings. Within the research on rest, sleep and work, more than proposing a resting performance we could only but shift perspectives: what can we learn about rest from a landscape? Or even, how can we rest with the landscape? Is it possible to, more than propose something to it, to become part of it? Can we work for and with the landscape? While we are working in producing such qualities of resting movements and images, what are the works within the landscape that are happening are often we are unware of?
Laura Salerno, Worpswede, June 2022
This is a performance for open spaces. It departs from an earliear research and earlier works by Laura Salerno in collaboration with Clarissa Sacchelli based on the paradoxical notions of rest and work, or better yet, on the acknowledgment that in order for one to rest, there is always someone else working for it to occur. In this sense, in “sonne wolke wind” there are two workers who are moving and producing imagery inspired from and for natural landscapes, relating with the surroundings and becoming themselves landscape. It happens in three different materials: times in very slow movements (sun material), times directing the gaze to the skies (cloud material), times in a rhythmic and visually marvelous endurance (wind material). The work happens in a cycle that goes through all three materials, as three pieces of a puzzle that can be split, shortened or made longer, shown in different orders or parts.

sun
two workers plant themselves in a area with two mirrors at hand, they use the mirrors to reflect the sunlight into different spots of the landscape. as follow spots that moves very slowly, the redirected sun light gives focus to details and parts of the surroundings that are on the shadows of the sun.
duration: 40minutes
cloud
one worker walks with a full silver bag accompained by another worker carrying a very small ladder, they look to the skies and guided by them they choose a spot. one worker opens the ladder, the other ones climbs it up and release the content of the bag to the skies. it is a smoke - cloud like. we all look up.
duration: 10 minutes
wind
two workers are moving a shining known material around, they work with the wind so the material keeps up on the air and doesn't fall. looks like a childs play, the material makes the wind visually visible in different ways, it also produces wind. it can last for a long time, moments of fun, moments of duty. the movements are generate by the relation of the material and workers body with the wind, times they can get synchronized.
